This website tells the story of a 15-year effort to develop the foods, arts, and heritage as a tool for community and economic development in the community of Freeman, South Dakota. Specifically, the effort to establish a center combining food, arts, & heritage in South Dakota.

The purpose of this is threefold:

  • To appropriately chronicle and archive one of the most pivotal times in the region’s history – and should not be forgotten.
  • Teach and guide future place makers through the opportunities, challenges, and pitfalls of a significant project in rural America.
  • Recognize and celebrate the substantial efforts made by numerous community champions and partners throughout the lifespan of the effort.

To allow something to die and something to come anew.
